Hex Sense logic puzzle is live!

31 Aug 2024

Back in June we wrote a blog about a new game that is coming soon. Today we’re happy to say: it’s here. Hex Sense is finally live and you can play it now at hex-sense.com Even though it’s not a daily word puzzle like Smartle, we can say that we enjoyed creating it as much. And we really hope that you will have a great time playing it. For now we have two full chapters, with more to come very very soon.

If you read our previous blog you already know what Hex Sense is. Let us recap it here one more time very quickly. Hex Sense is a logic puzzle game on a hexagonal grid. Every level is like a little map where you need to find your way from Start to the Exit. Some tiles are safe to go through. Some hide bombs. Numbers on open tiles show how many bombs are located around that tile. Players should use that information to find a safe way to the Exit. That’s it.

For now there is no guessing needed to win the game. Meaning that in every stage of the puzzle the player can with certainty determine which tiles have bombs in them and which don't. As for the future, we are not so sure. Maybe it will be even more interesting when it is not always certain and the player sometimes needs to guess where the bomb is. In Smartle daily word puzzle we have a bit similar situation when a player is stuck with some word combinations and then has to undo some of the existing words to be able to win the game.

Why make a logic game if we already have a daily word game? Honestly, we just really wanted to do something with hexagons and also something that would be really good for the brains and cognitive development. With so many “brain rot” games available today that are not doing anything good for the mental abilities of the player, we think it’s extremely important to release some games that are actually beneficial and help sharpen focus and reasoning.

So while Smartle and Hex Sense are two different puzzle games, there are actually a lot of similarities in their core. The main difference is that Smartle is a daily word puzzle and Hex Sense is not daily and also not a word puzzle. Hex Sense also gives you longer sessions when you want more than a couple of minutes to play. The most important similarity is that both are very good for your brain. They make you slow down, notice patterns, and think.

If you search for free games that are good for your brains, you’ll see lists of crosswords and other word games and also a lot of puzzle games. So if you are looking to train your cognitive abilities, keep Smartle word game in your routine and when you want a different kind of challenge, switch to Hex Sense.

One open question that we have for now, is whether we should make a daily puzzle mode for Hex Sense. Let’s say someone likes to play Hex Sense and wants to play it every day. If they complete the game, they will be left with the option to replay existing levels, which is not that fun. Of course we will be adding more and more of the new chapters but that won’t happen every day or even every week. So what do you think? Should we add a daily puzzle to the Hex Sense?

And that's it for Hex Sense for now! If you want to play the game, please go to hex-sense.com and give it a try. We’ll be back soon with more news from our side, and definitely some new chapters for Hex Sense.
