Every day thousands of players around the world open Smartle to solve their daily word puzzle. 2 years ago we couldn’t have even imagined this. We love seeing how many of you come back again and again to play our daily word games, making Smartle part of your daily routine. We see that people really enjoy our daily word puzzles and this is exactly why we started building Smartle and other games in the first place. We want to bring a little bit more joy in people's everyday lives.
What makes us especially happy is that often players don’t stop after the daily word game. We see a big number of players solving word puzzles in Sprint mode and in Archive mode too. If you are new to this blog, here is a quick reminder: Sprint is our fast-paced challenge where you need to solve 5 games in a row in a limited time, with a limited amount of hints. So the pressure is quite high. You can read more about Sprint mode here. Archive “mode” lets you replay past daily word puzzles, catch up on days you missed or just to replay games that you already played. Each daily word puzzle usually has many different solutions to it. It can be resolved in a lot of different ways and it’s often fun to replay and find those ways. Here you can read about the Smartle archive.
Anyway, we see that many of you switch between all three modes back and forth and as we do the same while playing our own game. We couldn’t stop thinking that the current design is a bit outdated and not so intuitive. Because of this we started thinking about giving Smartle a fresh look.
Our main goal is not to change the game itself but to make it easier and more convenient and intuitive to play. For example, we are considering a new layout where player can switch between the Daily, Sprint and Archive modes using tabs or buttons at the top of the screen. Right now players have to use arrows to move between modes. We think that tabs could make navigation faster and more intuitive, especially for new players who are discovering our daily word puzzle for the first time.
However we also have a concern.
Many of us know this feeling when something works well and we prefer it to stay exactly as it is. We personally feel the same. If we use an app every day and know it by heart, even a small change feels uncomfortable and unnecessary at first. That’s why we worry that some of our long-time players might not like a new design because it will be different.
That is why your opinion really matters to us.
Before moving forward we would love to ask you “what do you think?”. Do you like the current design? Do you have a feeling that it’s already outdated? And in the end of the post we would like to remind you that one thing will never change. Or maybe even two things. First is that Smartle will always remain a free daily word puzzle game. And second is that the research shows that playing word puzzles regularly helps maintain strong cognitive functions and keeps the brain active and young. We believe everyone should have free access to that, which is why Smartle word puzzle will always be among the free word games you can enjoy every day.
